Learning Pathway Description: To enter the pathway to becoming a Public Health Physician (or Public Health Medicine Specialist) you need a National Senior Certificate – Degree Entrance with good marks in Maths and Physical Science. After a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, an internship and community service, you will have to join a registrar programme in one of the Universities listed below and to complete a Fellowship of the College of Public Health Medicine of South Africa [(FCPHM(SA)] and Master in Medicine (Public Health Medicine/ Community Health). This second degrees qualifies you to registrar with Health Professional Council of South Africa as a Public Health Medicine Specialist and practise as a Public Health Physician. The writing of exams and a research report is required while you are studying for your FCPHM (SA) and Master in Medicine (Public Health Medicine).
